Melissa Etheridge
(29 May 1961) Melissa is an Academy Award-winning and two-time Grammy Award-winning American rock singer-songwriter, guitarist. She started playing the guitar at age eight in Texas, turning out tunes that were more of the blues than her more current folk-pop style. Playing independently she eventually caught the eye of Bill Leopold (her current manager) and signed with Island Records. Her first recording went gold (with the hit single "Bring Me Some Water") and she was quickly compared to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp. Melissa has released ten albums since signing her first major recording contract in 1987. Three of them have gone multi-platinum: Melissa Etheridge (1988), Yes I Am (1993) and Your Little Secret (1995). Two others went platinum and two more gold. She has won numerous awards including: International Entertainer of the Year at the 20th Annual Juno Awards in 1990; Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance twice in her career, for the songs "Ain't It Heavy" in 1992, and" Come to My Window" |
Melissa & Her Music: (which sold a staggering 6 million copies in the US in one year) in 1994; the Gibson Guitar Award for Best Rock Guitarist Female; the Stephen F.
